Creating Some Merchandise for the Website

Hoodie Design 1

I rejected this design as the text was off-centre and it was unclear what the symbol was supposed to be.

Hoodie Design 2

I liked this design better; the heart-shaped grenade positioned over the left side of the chest alluded to the symbolism of a WAR OF HEARTS.

Final Mock-Up

A similar technique was used to create this shirt and the mug:

I put together a poster in Photoshop to promote the American tour.

Finally, I uploaded the products to the website.

How will we progress from the second draft of our music video?

Asking for audience feedback for the second time, we decided on the following improvements for the video:

  • The interlude in the video went on for too long. We have decided to trim it down by starting the sequence at the moment when the partner sits down at the table, and moving the music forward to resume at the moment when Becky goes into the bathroom. The ringing of the phone will coincide with the beating of the drum as it resumes, tying the two together.
  • The part of the sequence after Becky takes the pills is unnecessary; the audience can infer what happens without being shown. Therefore, it will be removed.
  • The entire last chorus of the video has to be redone, although some of it will be playing underneath the bathroom scene.

Creating the new digipak panel

I started off by adjusting the balance of light and dark with a Curves layer.

I decided to boost the saturation of the rose to make it stand out.

How will I progress from the first draft of the digipak?

In this post, I will outline the changes I will make to the digipak between the first and second drafts.

In the first draft, the text on the image of the artist on the flap over the CD itself obscured the artist's eyes. The symbolism behind it, the artist formerly hiding her problems behind her music, was overpowered by the fact that it's important to see eyes to convey emotion. Therefore I will move the text to a more convenient location.

The left inside panel is also plain, with not much going on in the image. I'll swap this image out for a new one, one with both the artist and her partner in the music video.

How will I progress from the first draft of my website?

The goal of the first draft of the website was to get a feel for the software and to test out its limitations; therefore the website doesn't reflect my true intention for the final website.
Here are the changes I will implement in my final website:

  • using my own images
  • having a one-page website
  • having a clear colour scheme to tie all the elements together instead of having it look like patchwork
  • fitting more elements on a page

Digipak Planning

  • "Note To Self"

  • Low poly/isometric
    • Purple/Blue/Orange to symbolise the dawn after a long night
    • Fragmented like a shattered mirror to represent a changed self-image

Scripting the Second Scene

The dialogue was written by both of us, however Becky scripted it in the standard screenwriting format.

How will we progress from the first draft?

For the first time, we showed both our mini music videos for War Of Hearts to an audience of our peers to gauge their response. By doing so, we learned that the premise of the narrative was unclear in both of our drafts. The audience didn't get the hints that the artist was earlier in an abusive relationship and then died.

To fix this, we have decided on the following moving forward:

  • We will film a second acting sequence halfway through the music video, inserting it after the second chorus. In this sequence, the argument which was heard during the introduction to the video will unfold onscreen. Following will be the aftermath of the argument, leading to the artist's death.
  • A greater focus will be placed on the boyfriend. Instead of just the artist looking back on her life, the partner will be looking back on their relationship by means of the photos on the fridge.
  • More scenes will be centred around the toxicity of their relationship.

Separate Drafts

Becky and I decided to do separate first drafts for the music video. We decided on this because this way we would each come up with our own vision for the video and conglomerate them later on.

Both of our drafts will be posted tomorrow on the blog.
