Scripting the Opening Credits Scene
Our War of Hearts music video will have multiple sequences without music to emphasise some of the elements of the story. This is a common convention in alternative music, which has been done in music videos such as this one and this one.
The sequence we are scripting now is the audio for the opening sequence, which will play underneath the title card and will set the tone for the piece. It will also serve as a prelude to the later sequence, in which the argument escalates.

First Shoot - Opening
For our first scene, we decided to do an early morning shoot to capture the sun rising over a field. Here is our footage from that day:

What have we learnt from the research?
The entire purpose of researching the alternative music industry, artists and videos was to gain an insight into the forms and conventions used within them. The following is a list of conventions and/or ideas we will aim to adhere to or break with the music video:
- Picking a certain colour scheme and running with it through the majority of the video
- Using slow-motion and other visual effects, such as selective colour, as a device to enhance the narrative experience
- Letterboxing certain parts of the video, and retracting the letterbox for visual and symbolic effect
- Portraying a relevant issue to today's youth in order to evoke empathy from the audience
- Taking an unorthodox approach to the presentation of the video (e.g. perhaps cutting out the music for a specific section to focus on an important scene or to cut to dialogue)
- Not following through with the idea that the boy always has to get the girl at the end of the narrative or vice versa
- Portraying an unhappy relationship

Creating the Camera Overlay (GROUP)
For the scene where Louisa takes a photo of George using his camera, we needed a camera overlay to go over the video. These are the steps to creating it.
This is a screenshot of the camera app on an iPhone.
The screenshot was imported as a new layer in Photoshop.
Using the selection tool and a layer mask, the alpha channel was remapped so that the photoframe and the recent photos sections became transparent.

The final image. If you drag the image around the webpage, you can see that it is a transparent PNG file.

Choosing Our Models
The War Of Hearts music video has two main models, Becky and Rory. Below are some of the reasons we chose them to portray the characters Louisa and George respectively:

The Indie-Alternative Genre
Indie music is short for independent music, which refers to how the music is recorded and distributed. It was first used to describe how music was beginning to be distributed by labels other than Universal, Warner, Sony and EMI. Today, it's used a modifier term, with another genre added on to the end: indie pop, indie rock and indie alternative are examples.
One of the first instances of indie was the 1977 self-publication of the Spiral Scratch EP by the Manchester band Buzzcocks. It's been argued by the BBC and others that the publication of Spiral Scratch independently of a major label led to the coining of the name "indie".
Indie artists from across subgenres include: Halsey, Arcade Fire, Neutral Milk Hotel, Mumford & Sons
Indie music is also one of the platforms people use to voice their opinions through music. Artists that are beginning to change the music industry via the indie genre include: Hayley Kiyoko, a WOC (woman of colour) who is using her music to raise awareness and normalise the LGBT+ community and Twenty One Pilots, whose songs are filled with religious symbolism and revolve around concepts such as mental health and the power of the individual.
